Goose and Trey Anastasio Band brought the second night of their joint tour to Lowell, Massachusetts last night for a show at the Tsongas Center. Through each of the band’s sets, energy was abundant and smiles were everywhere as the many performers took in the spectacle of the night. Kicking off the night, Goose jumped directly into setlist staple “Drive,” a song that always works well in the opener slot. Similar to a number of recent versions, the quintet continues to skip the middle composed section and “first jam,” opting to jump right into the quicker and groovier “second jam” motif. Keyboardist Peter Anspach shined on this almost 20-minute opener, first on clavinet and then his Vintage Vibe electric piano, recently augmented by a brand-new stereo console “suitcase” amplifier.
